Youtube moment

  So for a little bit recently I’ve been uploading a daily starcraft series to my youtube channel. It’s not been anything that special, just been trying to play one ranked game a day. As much as I would like to talk about that experience so far, this post will be covering a little bit of a different topic. What I really want to talk about is just how weirdly youtube has been treating it. I’ve never really tried to understand the youtube algorithm, long ago I resigned myself to never being smart or persistent enough to actually understand what goes on in the mysterious machine that gives people the content that they want to see, or at least, what they think they want to see. The weirdest part of it is how drastically different some of the views on the videos are.


Pictured above are the first few episodes of the series that I uploaded over a month ago now. Looking at the episodes, you can see that the difference in views is crazy. Episodes two and three got over 250 views each while episode four only got a measly 17. I know it’s self-destructive to really take those view numbers into account, but it is a little bit of a wild mental ride to see the insane swing in views. Despite that though, I’ve had some really positive experiences putting in the effort for the daily grind. I now have a few people who regularly view and comment on my videos and no they’re not just my friends who are watching because I made them :). Having regular viewers is a really cool experience because they’re always there. It’s been especially helpful during the series because they’re clearly very experienced players who have a lot of tips for me. It’s helped a lot in helping me be more aware of my mistakes and ensuring that I’m not just repeating them game over game. It definitely helps me not think about the view counts, knowing that there is a small group of people who come back every video is a better feeling than youtube randomly deciding to give me a bunch of reviews before taking it away.

Goodbye Counter Strike: Global Offensive

  Well, considering everything that's happening in CSGO right this moment I think it's very likely today is the last day for the game. I don’t really wanna make this some long sappy post about the really nice memories I’ve had with this game so I’ll just keep it short and simple. Without CSGO, my life would never have gone this way. After spending many years failing at sports I was beginning to accept that I would never genuinely be good at anything competitive. CSGO helped me find something I could enjoy in that way. The game’s emphasis on skill and constant dedication enabled me to really feel like my time investment was going to something I was actually improving at.   As the dropship flew back to base, there were no words spoken. Given the situation, Karl couldn’t blame anyone.
