hads 2 work

We’re going from the first Hads Leppet story back to the second one with this piece today. Going back to my previous point about jumping around a bunch, I’m not really sure why I enjoy it. I sorta want to talk about it in my next post, but a small snippet of that would be just how the process of creating this world has gone. But in any case, all feedback is welcome and I will be back with another post tomorrow.

Illinessa woke up on a boat, she knew even before she opened her eyes because of the rocking of the waves and flapping of the sails. Instinctively she reached for her sword but found that it wasn’t strapped to her back like usual. She peeked open one of her eyes and was met face to face with the wooden hull of the ship. She was laying on a straw bed that felt brand new. Still suspicious of her surroundings, she slowly sat up. When she sat up she found that her right foot had been chained to the wall with a thick iron chain. She was surrounded by a bunch of crates and barrels that signaled to her that she was currently in the hold of the ship. Suddenly, a hatch opened from the top and a crew member started climbing down.

“Ah you’re finally awake then, we had bets going that said you weren’t gonna wake up till we arrived at the basin.” He casually walked up and sat down on a crate near her.”

She tried her best to stand up, but found that she didn’t have any strength, “Where am I?” She was able to mutter out before collapsing back into bed.

“Well, we found you washed up on the beaches of Chult while we were running a trading mission. Captain didn’t want to just leave you stranded.”

“How long was I out.”

“Well, a little more than a week. Looks like you’re pretty dehydrated right now and you’re probably pretty hungry. Want me to get the cook to make something for you.”

The prospect of food made her mouth immediately begin to water

The sailor climbed back out of the hold and shouted something that Illinessa couldn’t understand. She turned her eyes back to the chain, she could easily break it. When she tried to call upon the light to bolster her strength she found none. Slightly annoyed, she tried again, still nothing.

“What happened to my powers…”

She wasn’t going to give up that easily. Mustering all of her strength, she started to pull on the chain. It felt like she was carrying the entire world when she tried to lift the chains. When she began to feel lightheaded she dropped the chain.

“No use in wasting my strength on that.”

Her mind went back to what the sailor said. She didn’t recognize places like Chult or the Basin. She could be on the other side of Igrax for all she knew. All she knew was that it was daytime from the one time she was able to peek through the hatch.

“If only McFastener or Hads Leppet were here, they would probably know what those places are.”

Her mind suddenly flipped, “The others! Where are they, I know Hads_Leppet got caught in that beam too, but he didn’t end up here, and Ulnersa…”

She stopped that thought, “Focus on getting out of here first, I can work on finding the others later.”

The smell of food accompanied by the sailor opening the hatch quickly brought her out of her thoughts.

“It’s not much, but the cook was able to prepare this leftover pork knuckle and we had some Springwater left.” He handed her the food and she quickly began to devour it.

As she was eating, he took the chance to ask more questions, “So, what was someone like you doing around Chult?”
