The New ESEA x Faceit open league
So I’ve been playing esea open league on and off with some friends over the last few years and in case you don’t know, the entire thing was moved over the faceit website. There’s a bit more behind the reason as to why, but it’s partially because esea and faceit are now owned by the same company. This switch, naturally, has caused some issues that have led to me to have a multitude of complaints and grievances against how the league has gone. The first thing is the absolutely terrible interface! They do provide match pages that allow you to schedule your games, but it’s just so much worse. The big thing that needs to be fixed is that you cannot see the status of any match schedule requests that you send out. In the esea interface, when you sent or received an offer, it would sit there front and center, telling you how long you had to respond before the offer would auto accept. When you send an offer with this interface, there is literally nothing. The button goes away and I have absolutely no idea where it goes. Rescheduling the match as well is more painful, the interface says it shows only valid dates, but it only allows you to offer times on the day before and the day after when the rulebook clearly states that you can play matches anytime from the preceding sunday to the next sunday. I’m assuming you can get help from an admin to schedule stuff outside of the times the interface allows, but that would require agreement from both teams. Which, I mean, the match chat rooms are nice and they are better than the esea match comments, but it doesn’t do anything when I’m essentially ghosted by the enemy team. It’s sorta the same issue, but I can just access it in a much more convenient way. It would all be fixed if they just kept the original system from esea and updated their interface to actually do that. This is no doubt, my biggest complaint right now since scheduling the matches is very important considering I have to balance my player’s schedules, especially when the default times end up not working.
The next thing about the whole system that doesn’t really make sense is the way you need to pay for the league. So both esea and faceit offer their own subscription services that give you access to additional stuff on their sites. You would think that since the league is now on faceit that you could simply just use a faceit premium subscription to play in the league, but noooooo you actually need to pay for an esea league pass, different from esea premium, to play in the esea league on faceit. In reality, it’s not actually the biggest deal, but for the sake of making things intuitive, it’s really not. I had to double check with other people to make sure that we all didn’t just buy a subscription that is completely unnecessary. So thankfully I didn’t unintentionally bait five other people into wasting money.
The rest of my complaints are honestly pretty minor, like a lot of it is really why this even needed to happen. When we go to veto for servers(a nice feature so rare W here), the majority of the options are literally just ESEA servers. Like so much of the stuff is clearly just the ESEA functionality transplanted it into the faceit website. It honestly feels so superficial and needless that I question the point of it all. Yes it’s a sick new coat of paint because the esea website is just kinda cringe in the way it looks, but at least it all worked the way I expected.
In the end, it’s fine, I’ll adapt and play around whatever I need to. Just wish that the system was a little more refined. I won’t fault them for a lot of it because it did feel like it happened very quickly and it will certainly improve overtime. Just, when this is a very important part of the scene, it would be nice if they put in a little more effort to make it clear on what to do. Unless of course, I missed some very easy things and all of my complaints are pointless. If they are, let me know! I would love to see if I’m just being dumb. Besides that, I’ll be back tomorrow where hopefully I will have more positive things to say than this!
