Writing on Paper

Today I tried something a little different. I went out and wrote stuff on paper. Typing is great and really convenient, but I wanted to do it just to give it a real go. During my senior year of college, some of my classes didn’t allow us to use our digital devices during class. We had to buy our books physically and bring them to class. While I understand why my professor’s would make this choice, I could honestly do without it as just bringing my ipad everywhere saved on a lot of weight for carrying. I ended up having to use a proper notebook again for the first time in a while. I think there was some merit to it, as if I had been using my computer/ipad to take notes I probably would’ve spent a lot of time on MTG arena during times where I didn’t need to pay attention. Instead, I took that time to write stuff. Chapters of stories that I had been meaning to finish, and boy did I do a lot of it. In fact, I probably ended up being more distracted than if I had just used my digital devices. I was too tempted to make pages upon pages of stories/outlines/drawings, things that I just wanted to put down lest they escape my mind. So this was part of an effort to find that energy again. While it definitely didn’t feel as creatively exciting back then, I still found it pretty engaging. There’s not really much more to say, I’ll put one picture of what I managed to get down while I was doing it and I will have to find some way to start digitizing it because accessing it online is so much more convenient than having to dig through a notebook. It’s a shame because everything about the process online is so much better than writing it IRL. The feel of pen/pencil on paper is something else. I’ve gotten somewhat close on the tablet/stylus vibe, but the glass screen never gives the same feel as a piece of paper.  Don’t get me wrong. I love typing on a mechanical keyboard, that tactile sensation and feel is something that has ruined any membrane keyboard for me. It’s just that having your hand shape the words rather than hitting a button in front of you has some intangible quality that makes it feel like the superior form of writing to me. Maybe it’s because it’s a more novel feeling, or maybe I’m just going crazy. If you want to know more about the stuff I’m writing, I will for sure be posting more about it, but for now I just wanted to speak on what it was like doing this stuff for a little bit. If you have any thoughts I would love to hear them through a comment or a message. But without further ado, that was today’s post and I will be back tomorrow.
