Throwback intro of Igrax

This is definitely a time capsule piece. When I was first creating this setting almost like 8 years ago at this point, this was the first official piece of lore that I wrote for it. It has the beginnings of everything regarding Igrax here and it has only been something that I’ve been working on ever since of course. I think the most important change I’ve made has been adding in the aspect of refugees coming in from Phillarn and filling up the remaining space on the island. That is currently the part that I am trying to work on the most when trying to figure out what I’m going to be doing with this world. Besides that I did leave this mostly unchanged for the sake of nostalgia reasons for myself, but I would love to change it based off of what people may think about it. Another idea I’ve had was using what GW does for warhammer lore in that a lot of it comes from the POV of someone else so that things may be changed/updated as “new” knowledge comes to the forefront, but who knows. So anyways, if you like it cool, if not whatever, but one thing is for certain: I will be back tomorrow with yet another post.

First, some information on the rise of House Leppet. Before the separate houses of the land came to be, there stood a mighty kingdom. The kingdom of Atheau controlled a massive tract of land on the coast of Igrax, the great continent. It was thought that the kingdom, and its gilded ruler would last forever. Yet one day, for a reason that no one can discern even today, the leader vanished. Soon after, as if the gods themselves had caused it, Haselnor, was swallowed up by the earth. As news of this spread across the kingdom, society began to break down. Rich nobles, who had been waiting for the leader to vanish, attempted to take the power of the gilded throne for themselves. Civil wars broke out left and right, consuming the entire kingdom in chaos. The spontaneous breakdown of society and infrastructure ruined everything that Atheau had built. Atheau was no more.

The collapse was the time immediately following the destruction of the capital. Igrax was consumed by war for almost 50 years. At first the causes were just, many had seen the peace and prosperity brought about by the Gilded leader at the height of his power and wanted that for the land once again. Yet as the war dragged on, greed and desire began to drive more decisions. And as the lords of old died and their sons inherited the war, many soon lost sight of what they were really fighting for.  After 49 years of almost constant fighting, those that were left became disillusioned with the cause and on the eve of what would’ve been the fiftieth year of fighting an armistice was signed after a unanimous vote between the factions. For the first time in half a century, the dust settled on Igrax.

The remnants of Atheau were gone, those that were alive had only heard of the glorious capital through tales from parents of parents. Still alienated from each other through the war, the factions that rose out of the ashes worked to divide the land between each other. After countless hours of debate and compromise a fragile balance was established between the newly established “houses” as they were called. Shadows of the war still plagued the minds of everyone. The conflict left many with the idea that unity could never be achieved. Those that did soon realized that their pleas would fall on deaf ears. As the factions developed within their own bubbles, the chances of the continent being unified faded rapidly.

One of these houses, House Leppet, was built from the remnants of a small lord’s holdings within Atheau. Most of the lord’s history was lost during the collapse, the only carryover being the name Leppet. They were given a small slice of land on the coast, sandwiched between two larger houses, Houses Osred and Idmaer. House Leppet stayed under the radar for many years, a small fish in a highly contested pond. It didn’t take long for old conflicts to be renewed as border disputes and tension rose as cultures clashed. This brings us to House Leppet now, and how the actions of one man changed the course of history forever…
