The Unification Wars
The Unification wars was quite possibly one of the most important events in shaping the world into what it is today. The end result of the war was every continent coming together and signing a treaty that set the standards for international travel. Doctrines and regulations that would be used for many generations to come. While that may initially sound like a positive outcome, these treaties were signed by the blood of those who died in what came from one of the most bloody and devastating conflicts that ever happened between the humans of the world.
The war’s origins can essentially be traced back to the original group of refugees that escaped the rule of Phillarn’s king. He had spent a long time eliminating anyone who had the potential to challenge his rule. He thought by sending them out to sea they would either die out there or find themselves consumed by the Lucid Isles. He would go for many years before learning that they were able to successfully seek refuge with the people of Igrax. In learning that his punishment turned into an opportunity, he began to resent the rival human continent. It wasn’t long before the King gathered his greatest generals and began to formulate a plan to cross the ocean and invade the continent. Not only would he have the chance to eliminate the remnants of his rivals, but he would also have a new continent to rule. Of course he would never bring up the former point he made to the citizens, within a few months he had the entire kingdom whipped up into fighting shape. Technology for the continent was jump-started by possibly decades as the kingdom’s arsenal became deadlier and deadlier. Combustion technology helped the kingdom’s top engineers develop vehicles that would be able to cross the ocean far faster than anything that existed at the time. Anyone who even started to oppose the idea was quickly silenced and sent to work on weapons of war in the Industry Region. The same fate would fall to the people in the conflict region, whose population was reduced to almost nothing during the war recruitment drive. People from lowly farmers to rich nobles signed on to be a soldier, either wanting favor for the king or being tempted by the possibility of conquest and an innate warmongering desire.
The elves of the island of Grong heard of this news through envoys currently residing in Frush. The likes of which were quickly sent back home by order of the king. Concerned, the elves would send word directly to the houses in Igrax. Upon receiving this news a great meeting was called by all of the houses. After the first meeting, two clear options came to the forefront. The first one was that a military response was required. Many of the houses laid the groundwork to create an army of their own. One that after this temporary purpose could be summoned to defend the continent whenever needed. The second would be to seek help from any potential allies. Igrax already had positive relations with Tokata so they would quickly answer their call for help. The Island of Grong, despite delivering the warning, said they would only intervene if the war threatened to come to their land. That left one region of the world that some houses absolutely rejected: The Lucid Isles. By now, everyone knew that going anywhere close to those islands would more than likely result in their death. Many days of deliberation would come in which no clear answer was ever found. Those who wanted to build up their army would rather not spend precious resources on something with little success and support for the plan quickly diminished. Fed up with the process and knowing that there was no point in trying to get help where they would find none, a small group made up of three leaders from various houses went off on their own. Their only communication would be to not spend resources looking for them if they didn’t come back in time.
The journey to the Lucid Isles proved to be the easy part. Every map of the oceans had a giant blank spot marked with all sorts of warnings to never go near lest you be swept up into the mist. All they had to do was ignore any of that and just sail right into the mist.Within a short amount of time they found themselves right at the edge of the point of no return. As expected, they were quickly swept up, but found themselves in a place that they weren’t quite expecting. They expected a desolate wasteland, torn apart by the storms flowing over the landscape, but they soon realized that the storms hid an island paradise. The sunny landscapes definitely didn’t match up with their greetings. They were given an opportunity to present their case which, not known to them, would determine if they were killed on the spot or killed after being kept as prisoners. Fortunately enough, they were spared and given a few days before they would executed in their sleep. During those days, the group repeatedly went before the leading councils and tried to make a case for them needing their help. Anyone outside of the rooms were those discussions happened couldn’t tell you for sure what happened, but something that was said to the leading councils of the Lucid Isles convinced them that perhaps it was time to reveal themselves to the world. By the time they were able to move their forces back to Igrax the fighting had already begun. The fighting, as expected, fell much to the favor of Phillarn. Their war machines and weapons were simply too advanced for what the combined people of Igrax and Tokata would be able to put up at the time. When the people from the Lucid Isles arrived, the tide was immediately turned. Within two days, the majority of fronts had gone towards Igrax and almost the entirety of Phillarn’s army had surrendered.
It wouldn’t be for a few months until the King himself arrived on the continent to sign Phillarn’s formal surrender to the people of Tokata, The Lucid Isles, and Igrax. There was a lot of deliberation regarding what should happen to Phillarn following this loss. The new revelations about the Lucid Isles definitely didn’t help. The end result was that Phillarn would give up the majority of their military advancements and allow any to use the industry region’s massive production power for their own products. The King’s power became moot while a new democratic council was founded to be the ones with real power in Phillarn. The King would quickly die of old age following the acceptance of these terms, with any potential heirs choosing to remain in line with the post war regulations. Many wanted the people of the Lucid Isles to answer for generations’ worth of murder, but soon realized that it would be more beneficial to have them as allies instead of going straight into another war. The majority of them would stay on their islands, but now those who wished to explore the rest of the world would be able to freely travel in and out of the region. This was the “unification” part of these wars as it helped the world become much more connected by revealing the last hidden nation to everyone else.
And that was a short overview of this historical event! This was kinda just written off the cuff based off of what I wanted this event to kinda look like which is why some of it feels a little underdeveloped/abrupt. I wanted to write something a little more deep and involved as a sorta apology for forgetting to write something yesterday. I think the eventual goal is write some kind of novelization of these events, rather than just have it presented as if it were part of a historical documentary. I did want to have it though because this was definitely a way for people to learn more about the world’s history whether it be in universe or otherwise. As with a lot of work I post here, this is most certainly a draft and 100% subject to change. If you have any thoughts about the things I could change to make this event feel better/more realistic I would love to hear them. I’m still trying to work out a few more things myself so I’m glad to hear anyone out! If nothing else, I just want to thank you for taking the time to read this far in the first place and I will be coming back tomorrow with another post!
